safety sheet / ss-01

Safe to hold,
made to last.

Words like nuclear ask for plain talk, so here it is: what is inside the cell, what keeps it there, and what that means in your home. Read the whole sheet. It is short on purpose.

ss-02 / the enclosure

What keeps the science inside.

  1. 01

    outer casing

    steel, the layer you touch

  2. 02

    insulating barrier

    ceramic, holds the layers apart

  3. 03

    inner containment

    hermetic seal around the core

  4. 04

    the core

    isotope material, semiconductor stack

ss-03 / handling

Handling, plainly.

  • Hold it, pocket it, drop it on the kitchen floor: normal handling is what it is designed for.
  • There is no liquid inside to leak and nothing to recharge, so there is no maintenance routine to forget.
  • Keep the contacts clear of keys and coins, as you would with any battery.
  • When a device comes out of service, move the cell to the next device. You will do this for years.

ss-04 / regulation

A regulated power source, like it should be.

1nfy is not unregulated and we would not want it to be. The cell is designed and tested to meet applicable safety and transport standards, and it will be certified before a single unit ships, with documentation for every unit to show it. If a standard applies to it, we will meet the standard, and we will keep the paperwork where you can read it.

ss-05 / straight answers

Straight answers.

Is it radioactive?

The cell contains a small amount of isotope material, sealed inside a layered enclosure. In normal handling, the sealed enclosure prevents any external radiation hazard. The science is contained and calm, and it is what lets the cell serve for decades without recharging.

What if a child holds one?

In normal handling, nothing happens. The enclosure is sealed and child-safe by design: holding it, pocketing it, or dropping it poses no external radiation hazard. It was designed for exactly the curiosity of small hands.

Can it leak or burst?

No. There is no free liquid inside and no pressure build-up in normal use. The cell is solid-state and hermetically sealed, so there is nothing to leak and nowhere for pressure to come from.

How do I dispose of one?

You most likely never will. Decades from now, at true end of life, send the cell back through our take-back program and we will recover the materials properly.

fig. 07 / next step

Buy one, forget the rest.

When 1nfy ships, you will buy a single battery, and the habit of replacing ends for good. Join the list and we will write to you first.
